Zion National Park is about forty minutes away on SR 9 and absolutely worth a trip. Most tourists passing through St George are on their way to Zion. Our favorite hikes there are the overlook on the other side of the tunnel, emerald pools, and Angel’s Landing if you have a few hours and are up for a vertical challenge. The views from the top are worth it. The most challenging hikes we have done are the Subway and the Narrows, both of which will take 1-2 days and require permits.
Sand Hollow State Park is just outside St George, maybe fifteen minutes from our neighborhood. It has sandy beaches, boating, red rock formations jutting out from the cool blue water, and best of all… cliff jumping! Quail Creek is a smaller and closer to home option, we like to picnic on the white rocks and overlook the red rocks on other side of the water.
Yep, here is the site of the ceremony! A little closer to town than Zion, and a bit smaller, but no less beautiful. The red sandstone against the black lava rock and the blue sky are pretty unforgetable. Make sure to have a copy of your wedding invitation and it will allow you to hike here all day on us. Be sure to check out the lava caves!
Do you have a hankering to watch some seniors destroy each other in basketball? Volleyball? Soccer? It is pretty awesome to watch these guys, and the energy is unbelievable. We have a gold medalist for golf in the family… Terry Wittry! We’ll post more information about when she will be playing and some pictures as we get them. Opening ceremony takes place on October 7th, and closing ceremony is October 19th.
Tuachan is an outdoor red rock ampitheater located in Ivins, which is next to our ceremony site (Snow Canyon State Park). It will be showing Disney’s Mulan, Mary Poppins, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Starlight Express.
Red Mountain Spa is a destination for relaxation… it overlooks Snow Canyon State Park and offers massages, facials, steam rooms and more. Travel and Leisure World voted it the #1 Destination Spa.
With the north rim being 3 hours away, the Grand Canyon would be a fun reason to extend your trip!
Two hours from St George. Do we need to say more?
We have all the regulars like Chili’s, Outback, Red Robin, etc. But here’s a brief list of some of our favorites:
Painted Pony – excellent patio for outdoor dining in the trees, and a creative american menu. This one is a tad expensive so we usually hit up the lunch specials. Located in Heritage Square.
Benjas – great thai food and a cool atmosphere, also located in Heritage Square near Painted Pony.
Sakura – hibachi and sushi. I think we’ve said enough.
Bear Paw Cafe – our go to place for an excellent breakfast
That’s right. We are a destination for biking, hiking, and all off road vehicle fun. Bring your bike and your hiking shoes!
